Studsvik takes the next step toward new nuclear power in Sweden

Today, May 25, we submitted an application to the Swedish Government to establish between 600 and 1,400 MW of new nuclear power capacity at and around our existing site in Nyköping.

The project is part of our ReFirm program, one of the European Union’s most advanced multi-site SMR and new nuclear development programmes, which became part of the Studsvik Group through the acquisition of Kärnfull Next earlier this year.

Our ambition is to help deliver the firm, fossil-free electricity Sweden will need as demand grows through industrial electrification, transport and data centres.

Studsvik has been part of Sweden’s nuclear journey since 1947. With decades of technical expertise, research and international experience, we are now looking ahead to contributing to the next generation of Swedish nuclear power.

This application marks the beginning of a long-term permitting process where continued dialogue with authorities, the municipality and the local community will be essential.
