Studsvik seeks state support for new nuclear power in Sweden
Friday June 12, Studsvik handed over an application to Niklas Wykman, Minister for Financial Markets, for state support to develop new nuclear power in Sweden, marking an important step from ambition to execution.
Through the ReFirm programme, we are advancing SMR park projects in southern Sweden, with Valdemarsvik and Nyköping as the most mature sites. The ambition is to enable up to 1,400 MWe of fossil-free baseload capacity.
With proven light-water technology, strong nuclear expertise, and an active development programme, Studsvik is positioning itself at the forefront of privately led new nuclear in Sweden.
– Studsvik is applying because we believe Sweden has the competence, the sites, the supply chain, and the policy framework required to build again. New nuclear power will be needed both to replace ageing baseload capacity and to support Swedish industrial growth, says Karl Thedéen, President and CEO.
