Protection and safety

For outside workers who have independent access to Studsvik Nuclear AB (SNAB), which is part of Studsvik Tech Park

Before you start working at Studsvik we need various certificates from you. We require:

Security clearance
Drug test
Radiological medical examination (for work in a radiological environment)
Protection and Safety training
Radiation Protection in Practice training (for work in a radiological environment)

If you have fulfilled all the above requirements, you are entitled to move independently within Studsvik Tech Park provided you have valid approved preregistration and a valid ID document. If you do not fulfil one or more of the above requirements, you must have an approved guide with you throughout your visit to the facility. See the table (at foot of page) and the relevant sections below.

The examinations and training are to be repeated at various intervals. You will receive an email reminder. These reminders are sent out automatically from an electronic system with the sender address noreply@studsvik.se.

Security screening

Security screening (= checking and processing of certificates, background checks, questions etc.) is carried out with the assistance of a security officer for employees and contractors at Studsvik Nuclear AB. This function is staffed on Thursdays during the hours 06.00–18.00.

Preregistration

Preregistration is required to enter Studsvik Tech Park. Your contact person employed at Studsvik Nuclear AB will carry out preregistration.

Security clearance (contact the security officer for instructions under transitional rules until new forms are available via the website)

Go to “Related documents” to download forms and support for security clearance. The forms are to be completed, printed, signed and emailed to Säkerhetshandläggare or posted to Säkerhetshandläggare, Studsvik Nuclear AB, SE-611 82 Nyköping, Sweden, tel. +46 155 22 13 13. Further instructions can be found on the forms.

Drug tests

Drug testing is to be carried out every three years. Drug testing is to include the following drugs:

Cannabis
Amphetamines/ecstasy (MDMA)
Cocaine
Opiates
Benzodiazepines

All contractors/consultants/suppliers are subject to Studsvik Nuclear AB’s drug policy and may be randomly selected for drug tests while at Studsvik Tech Park, in the same way as employees.

The results of the drug test are to be emailed to Säkerhetshandläggare or posted to Säkerhetshandläggare, Studsvik Nuclear AB, SE-611 82 Nyköping, Sweden, tel. +46 155 22 13 13.

Protection and Safety training

This web-based course includes important information about the work environment, alarm signals and preparedness, as well as physical protection. It is to be completed by everyone who has access to the site. The course is made up of various modules, specific information for each facility and a final test. It takes around 60 minutes to complete and is available in Swedish and English.

This training course is to be completed before your arrival at Studsvik Tech Park. Once you have passed the test, the certificate shown in the training module is to be printed out and signed.

Follow the link https://login4.competencetool.se/Kkvgemensam/CourseCatalog in the list for All Facilitys, chose the course ”Protection and Safety”. Employees at Studsvik already has an account, use your Studsvik-email address and ask for a new password the first time you log in. Contractors must register as new user, stating your full personal identity number. Chose the facility ”Studsvik”. An administrator will thereafter create an account for you, this might take a few days. You will be notified by email to the address that you entered as your username when your account is ready. You can then login and start the course. Next time you are about to take a web based training course in the portal Competence Tools you can login directly. If you have forgotten your password a new one can be sent to your username email address.

Then email the certificate to sakerhetshandlaggare@studsvik.com or post it to Säkerhetshandläggare, Studsvik Nuclear AB, SE-611 82 Nyköping, Sweden, tel. +46 155 22 13 13.

Medical examination and certificate for work involving ionising radiation

If you are to work in a controlled area within Studsvik you must in certain cases undergo a radiological medical examination. The medical examination is repeated every three years. In between these, a health declaration (periodic control) is to be submitted every year. You can undergo the examination at your occupational health service or another healthcare facility. The forms “Health declaration – Work involving ionising radiation” and “Medical certificate – Work involving ionising radiation” can be downloaded from the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority website; see the links in the column on the right.

Radiation Protection in Practice

This training is mandatory for individuals working in controlled areas. The course provides you with the knowledge and skills you need in order to work safely and securely in a controlled area as regards radiation protection. It is available in Swedish and English.

The basic course takes around 6 hours and is held on Tuesdays starting at 08.30. You must register in advance by email, at latest the Friday before. See “Training sessions: Radiation Protection in Practice – basic course” for the available locations and how to sign up for the date you want. Enter your name, the course you want to register for, the company you are employed at and your contact details.

If you wish to take the Radiation Protection in Practice course in English, please give plenty of notice.

Radiation Protection in Practice re-training

The training is to be repeated every three years. The repeat course (re-training) consists of two parts:

Part 1: Web-based course – Radiation Protection in Practice, re-training.

The course can be found at the following link https://login4.competencetool.se/Kkvgemensam/CourseCatalog . For more detailed information see the section Protection and Safety. Start the course ”Radiation Protection in Practice, re-training”. It is available in Swedish and English. A certificate shall be provided the instructor in part two.

Part 2: Instructor-led workshop lasting around 2 hours. You must register in advance by email, at latest the Friday before. See “Training sessions: Radiation Protection in Practice – re-training” for the available locations and how to sign up for the date you want. Enter your name, the course you want to register for, the company you are employed at and your contact details. You must have successfully completed Part 1 (the web-based training) in order to take Part 2.

If you wish to complete the Radiation Protection in Practice workshop in English, please give plenty of notice.

Radiation Protection in Practice courses are held alternately by Studsvik Nuclear (SNAB), Cyclife Sweden AB (Cyclife) and AB SVAFO (SVAFO). The course content is the same and you do not have to take the course with the same organisation that you are going to work for. At SNAB, Emma Drie is responsible for the training courses.

	3.	Drug test	Valid for 3 years	The drug test is usually carried out by your occupational health service; in Studsvik’s case, this is Previa. Approved tests allow independent access and are usually sent direct from the occupational health service to sakerhethandlaggare@studsvik.com, or alternatively by post.
	4.	Protection and Safety	Valid for 3 years Protection and Safety – web-based course	This course is to be completed before your arrival at the Studsvik site. Once you have passed the test, the certificate shown in the training module is to be signed and then emailed to sakerhetshandlaggare@studsvik.com or sent by post.
Required for each individual company at the Tech Park	5. Protected area
Controlled area	6.	Radiological medical examination (Fitness for work certificate; medical certificate of fitness for work involving ionising radiation) The medical examination is repeated every three years. In the intervening years (years 1 and 2) a health declaration is submitted, also known as periodic control.	Valid for 3 years (see health declaration below for intervening years). The purpose of the medical examination is to protect workers. It is intended to prevent anyone who is particularly sensitive to the harmful effects of radiation from being employed or continuing to be engaged in work involving ionising radiation. Consideration is also given to whether certain personal protective equipment may cause particular difficulties. If you have any questions contact the radiation protection personnel or security officer. See also www.ssm.se	Studsvik Nuclear AB employees: When you are emailed a reminder concerning a radiological medical examination (from noreply@studsvik.se), SNAB’s security officer sends a prefilled form (on paper) to Radiation Protection which checks and documents your current radiation dose. The form is then sent to you, so that you can fill in supplementary information and sign it. After signing the form, send it to the security officer who will check that it can be forwarded to SNAB’s doctor at Previa. Once the doctor has assessed your fitness for duty, the form is signed and then posted to the security officer. Your new validity date is then updated. 	6.1	Health declaration, periodic control (medical certificate of fitness for work involving ionising radiation)	In the intervening years (years 1 and 2) a health declaration is submitted, also known as periodic control.	Studsvik Nuclear AB employees: When you are emailed a reminder concerning periodic control (from noreply@studsvik.se), SNAB’s security officer sends a prefilled form (on paper) to Radiation Protection which checks and documents your current radiation dose. The form is then sent to you, so that you can fill in supplementary information and sign it. After signing the form, send it to the security officer who will check that it can be forwarded to SNAB’s doctor at Previa. 	7.	Radiation Protection in Practice	Valid for 3 years Instructor-led course; booking is required, and the Protection and Safety course must be completed first	This training is mandatory for individuals working in controlled areas. Read more under the headings Radiation Protection in Practice and Radiation Protection in Practice – re-training above.

Radiation protection technology

This course is mandatory for contractors in leadership/supervisory roles. It is held at the facility twice a year. The initial basic course takes two days. Repeat training is required after three years and this takes around three hours. The course is available in Swedish and English.

Preregistration

To enter Studsvik Tech Park you must be preregistered, even if you have security clearance. This is arranged by your contact person at Studsvik Tech Park; contact them in good time before the work is to be done.

Hot work permits

Securitas is responsible for permits for hot work/work that presents a fire hazard at Studsvik Tech Park. Call +46 155 22 10 20 if you need to renew a permit or apply for a new permit.

Contractors’ room

The site has a contractors’ room where you can heat food. There are also showers.

Speed

Everyone must comply with the speed restrictions on and around Studsvik Tech Park.

Lunch

Lunch is available to buy at Horsvik during the hours 11.00–13.00.
