Studsvik offer Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) courses at their Bamber Bridge, Preston office which adhere to the guidance on training provided within the Health & Safety Executive Information Sheet (Ionising Radiation Protection Series No. 6). On completion of the course successful attendees are awarded a certificate that enables their employer to formally appoint them as an RPS under the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR 17).

Interactive and Hands-On Training:
We aim to make the courses as interactive as possible and include
syndicate exercises and practical, hands-on use of monitors and monitoring
techniques:

  • Biological Effects - candidates practice using their knowledge to explain the effects of ionising radiation to their colleagues
  • Risk Assessment - candidates are guided through completing an IRR 17 compliant risk assessment.
  • Monitoring - candidates learn and use hands-on monitoring techniques with radiation monitors in order to understand the capability and limitations of different types of monitoring devices
  • Contingency Plans - candidates role play and think about measures to take in a radiation emergency
