Studsvik utilizes T-Spray, a liquid spray drying process, to efficiently and cost effectively reduce large volumes of radioactive aqueous liquids.
T-Spray is a pumpable liquid spray drying process that allows for efficient and cost-effective volume reduction of radioactive aqueous liquids. This process instantly dries and reduces a wide variety of liquids into a concentrated powder by exposing the atomized liquid to a high-temperature flame. While a significant volume reduction takes place, no solidification results, meaning that the resultant powder can be buried. In addition, the powder produced contains less than 5% moisture which meets free-standing liquid criteria.
This process is a powerful solution for the treatment of high-conductivity liquids which can be very difficult to treat on-site. Some of the liquids T-Spray can atomize include:
- Brine Solutions (up to 20% total dissolved solids)
- Salt Water Intrusions
- Reverse Osmosis Reject Liquids
- Cleaning Solutions/Decon Solutions
- High Boron Liquids
- High Conductivity Liquids
Studsvik’s T-Spray process has been highly successful and has processed liquids from several commercial nuclear plants as well as multiple industrial customers. These projects represent a significant experience with liquid waste processing and have enabled Studsvik to achieve the maximum efficiency and savings for the customer.
