This is the third year that Studsvik is publishing a Corporate Responsibility (CR) Report. Therefore, it is useful to look back over the past three years and reflect on what we have learnt and achieved during this time. When we published our CR Report for 2008, we were entering a new arena – taking the step from environmental reporting to CR reporting.
As an organization, we had a lot to learn. I stated then that Corporate Responsibility means a commitment to the principles of sustainable development and that this is how Studsvik generates value. This continues to hold true in 2010.
Since 2008, we have come a long way in refining our processes for working with CR within our organization. Reporting in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is not just a means of communicating to stakeholders but a tool for continuously improving our performance.
The work described here in the Performance Report demonstrates our dedication to continuous improvement. This year, we also enlisted the help of some of our stakeholders in assessing the CR Report. They have provided valuable comments on the relevance of our CR work and on how this is communicated. For example, communication and dialog with our stakeholders is an area where we need to intensify our efforts. We intend to enlist the help of some of our stakeholders in assessing our CR Reports in the future. We believe they will provide valuable comments on the relevance of our CR work and on how this is communicated.
Our business is to integrate CR into providing innovative, efficient and safe solutions to our customers’ challenges. While an ongoing dialog with our stakeholders helps us to keep up the momentum through incremental improvements, it is necessary for us to also find ways of working that are proactive and that allow us to break new ground. This is a challenge that lies ahead and we will take stakeholder views into account as we plan for the future.
