Incineration of Low-level Waste

Published: 8 February 2011
Studsvik offers incineration of low-level radioactive waste, mostly consisting of plastic, textiles, cellulose and oil.

Due to the high combustion efficiency our method gives a volume reduction of up to 97 per cent and a weight reduction of up to 92 per cent. From the original waste only residual ash and filter dust is left as a final product.

Advantages Gained as Our Customer

  • Lower costs for interim on-site storage and final disposal
  • Incineration is customer specific which preserves the nuclide spectrum of each customer and minimises cross contamination
  • Easily accessible deliveries through our deep-sea harbour
  • Our Research & Development leads to improvements and new methods
  • Several customer related options as to how the ash is returned
