The year’s safeguard inspection of the Studsvik area was completed without remark on March 15-17.
Inspectors from the IAEA, Euratom and the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority visited Studsvik to check that the nuclear material at the facility (uranium, plutonium and thorium) is correctly recorded. Over the three days visits were made to all facilities where there is nuclear material. Every item recorded in the books (these are in the thousands) was examined and many measurements taken.
The purpose of these inspections is to stop the spread of materials used in the production of nuclear weapons.
